March 12 Pour Jesus

2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

There's a hymn called "Ivory Palaces."

Out of the Ivory palaces
Into a world of woe,
Only His great eternal love
Made my Savior go.

I find it hard to visualize the splendor of heaven. Clouds, streets of gold, grand palaces, musical instruments and millions of angels dressed in white splendor... But where did Jesus live in heaven? In a mansion? A castle? A cave of fluffy clouds and light? How did He feel the night He was born into a cold stinky stable?

I think of difficult places where I have lived. I think of times I had culture shock. "Why am I stuck here?" I've asked. Did Jesus feel that way on the cross? He left such splendor, and He was King of kings and Lord of lords. Next thing you know, He's on a cross with people jeering.

Though He was rich, yet for my sake He became poor... so I could have eternal life in that heavenly splendor that He once again calls home.

Philippians 2: 5-8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

This photo was taken in the center of our town, depicting a broken vessel, one spilled out and one standing up. It makes me think of Christ emptying Himself.
